Castelsardo: a romantic village on the sea (Sardinia)

There is a place in Sardinia that inspires awe and wonder. Placed on a promontory surrounded by the sea is the pretty Medieval village of Castelsardo, in the Gulf of Asinara Island, northern Sardinia.

Founded by the Doria family of Genoa, the city was conquered by the Aragonese. On top of the hill stands the castle, a romantic place where you can enjoy an unique view: the most of the northern coast, the island of Asinara and even the southern Corsica when the sky is clear. For those who love traditions we suggest a visit to the Museum of Mediterranean which is located inside the Castle. The museum is dedicated to the techniques of weaving baskets, as Castelsardo is famous worldwide for this traditional type of handicraft.

Overlooking the sea stands the Cathedral of St. Anthony Abbot, flanked by a bell tower whose dome is covered with colored majolica.

Castelsardo is part of the Club of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, who will arrange for June 25 “the romantic night”. Narrow streets, squares, palaces of the towns that will agree will be animated by various events and in small restaurants you can enjoy a special menu for all lovers.

Castelsardo is waiting for you during this romantic night and for other adventures!
