“The sky is full of white clouds, light, similar to the shape of fireworks. Their shadows slip across the hills, mixing with those of the trees. This alternation between light and shade of the hills, like the waves if the sea, that push one another to the horizon, seems to be the breath of life itself, the solemn rhythm of nature, full of the chirping of the crickets and the blinding light of the sun in the moments when it appears from behind the clouds.” (Andreij Tarkovskij)
Green hills that descend languidly, covered by velvety vineyards and kissed by the warm light of the sun, Medieval villages rich in traditions and ancient flavours, the slow constant call to the “dolce vita”, the splendid sea that caresses the coast…
Reasonably, Tuscany has always fascinated the whole world. Because of this, it remains at the first place among the Italian localities chosen by foreign couples to get married, and the numbers are even foreseen to increase in 2018. On the top of the list of the people choosing this marvellous region for the fateful “Yes”, we still find couples coming from United States (24,1%) and Great Britain (21,9%). The quantity of young brides and grooms arriving from Far East and Eastern Europe is raising too.
“The valley of the Orcia river, a union of art and countryside, is a marvellous expression of natural features but is also the result of and testimony to the people who lived there. Amidst the harsh, rugged countryside of volcanic origin and the softer hills, where the Mediterranean Macchia, the vines, olive groves and varied cultivation mix and intersect in frescoes of rare beauty, you realize how much man has been aware of his dependency on nature, in the use of the land, ensuring methods that do not destroy, taking advantage of the natural resources available.”
Tuscany opens to a wedding tourism which is not limited to the privileged ones, with a great majority of standard-budget celebrations, though maintaining its polished and elegant essence it has always been proud of.
“Towns and villages await us, they untwine like memories not yet lived, love, let’s choose Tuscany. The thermal baths of Montecatini, the castle of the Emperor at Prato, the Casa del Genio by Leonardo da Vinci, the villas in the periphery of the majestic capital: Florence. […] History encapsulated in every wall of the Palazzo Vecchio, art released from each painting in the Uffizi. […] To cross Ponte Vecchio admiring the shop windows of the jewellers, to stroll alongside the natural scultures of the Boboli Gardens and to visit the church of Santa Maria Novella and the tombs of the “great” in Santa Croce. From Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence shows itself: schoolmistress, understanding mother, diadem that frees beauty and captures time; the mountains beyond the monuments, the “silver ribbon” that carries history.”
Ancient villas and vintage abodes, with their atmosphere of old-time pomp, attract the highest number of newlyweds for their love’s fairy-tale and are immediately followed by agritourisms and farmohuses, that enrapture for their rustic vitality and their pleasant context.
“It was a radiant day in harmony with nature and the countryside. A cocktail of happiness and romance inspired the guests to tears of joy and emotion and for us, indescribable emotions. Transported by the perfume of love, we crossed the town to celebrate in an old cottage lying in the sweet Tuscan hills. For the attentive photographer, we kissed under the laced boughs of the vines, amongst the olive groves next to the ancient oil mill, sitting on the last bales of hay or on an old plough.”
